Question: Does it matter where you open your IRA (Schwab vs. Merrill vs. ???)?

Are there any real differences in IRA products between these various providers? I currently have my old 401k with Merrill and some other services with Schwab, and I need to roll that over to an IRA. I’m considering consolidating to one provider (Schwab)…for an IRA rollover does it really matter where you put it, i.e. are the fees more or less equal or can one yield higher average returns?
